Pomeroy Mandolin #239 A-2 V Style with Walnut Back
Here’s another “V” style A-2 offering, with overhangs and inlaid perflings top and back. This one in particular is unique, with moderately figured walnut back, sides and neck. I’ve never used walnut as a tone wood before and have always wanted to give it a try. I was fortunate a few years back to find a small amount of it in a saw mill I frequent in Vermont whenever I’m home visiting family. I’ve had it back in Colorado seasoning on my wood rack while deciding what to actually do with it! Happy to say- putting it into an oval hole style mando was a good decision and I’m delighted with the results. My first impression is that it offers a mellower but more focused tone to the maple I’ve always used in my oval holes. Please listen to the audio sample below and hear for yourself.
