Pomeroy A2- #242

Just completed in January 2018, this V style A-2 includes a first time scroll carved onto the top of the headstock, just for fun. The top and bottom plates have overhangs and inlaid perflings. And another first- rather than the typical ebony overlay, I’ve left that out in favor of a slightly gradated, colored headstock, to more imitate the look of a violin pegbox. Ok, it’s a little different, but I love the organic look and feel of it. The deeper cut, channeled perimeter of the top and back presents a handcrafted, chiseled visual contrast to typical binding detail. The carved scroll on the headstock is reminiscent of some Lyon and Healy’s of older times. And the tone is percussive, big and open with a balanced but impressive resonance. This is a wonderful mandolin for playing old timey, Irish and classical, and I think even the bluegrass community would be impressed. I’m planning to make another similar to it quite soon.  It also has the following, signature Pomeroy features:

  • Colorado Englemenn spruce top, with V bracing
  • Golden Age “Relic” tuners in vintage nickel finish
  • 1 3/16″ width ebony nut
  • Shop made ebony adjustable bridge/saddle
  • Adjustable truss rod and 3 piece laminate neck construction
  • Soft “V” neck profile
  • 10″ Radiused fingerboard with MOP dots and side markers
  • Traditional 2-piece tailpiece in relic nickel finish with Pomeroy “Lady” logo cast in silver
  • Semi-gloss nitro lacquer finish
  • Hardshell case
  • Full lifetime warranty
